Understanding Holistic Health

Presenting some extract from book by Frank Vilaasa, "Understanding Holistic Health".

The book is available in eBook version in 'PDF' format and also in conventional print media. Please inquire by sending us an email. The payment is through secure Paypal. You will find the link in Shop area.

The extract

---
Traditionally, in our Western Society, we have recognised three different aspects or levels in ourselves - the body, the mind and the spirit. The body became the domain of the medical doctor, the mind has come under the care of the psychiatrist and psychologist, and the spirit was ministered to by the priests. Each of these three groups tended exclusively to their own area. There was very little overlap. The doctor saw the body and the mind as being quite separate and independent of each other. To the priest, the body was actually antagonistic to the requirements of the spirit. None looked at the person as a whole, or attempted to bring any integration among these three levels.

The result is that we in the West are often divided against ourselves. Internal balance and harmony between the different levels of our being is rarely cultivated, or even acknowledged as a desirable goal for health and wellbeing. All too often we find that our bodies, minds and spirits are in conflict with one another. It is these internal conflicts that create the turmoil, confusion and stress responsible for many of today's physical ailments. It is now generally accepted that 85% or more of all physical ailments have non-physical causes.1

This fragmentation has been with us for so long, and has become so much a part of us, that we more or less take it for granted. It is considered normal to be tense and confused and stressed in our society. We think that it's necessary to struggle to get through life, that we're doing well if we just manage to cope. Any joy in life is considered to be a bonus. We regard ourselves as healthy if we manage to remain symptom-free. We have no positive concept of health as a state of harmony and wellbeing, or any idea of how this state can be achieved.

In recent years, a new understanding of health as a state of wholeness has started to emerge, outside of the precincts of orthodox medicine. We are seeing an ever growing number of new healing modalities, psychotherapies, herbal remedies, vibrational medicines, healing methods from other cultures etc. proliferating in recent times. At first glance, the sheer number, range and diversity of these new methods seems to be overwhelming. This is a genuine concern to those wanting to find out what these alternative forms of healing have to offer. Where to start? Which ones to choose? Are they all different? Do they have anything in common?

Enough has been written about the various individual modalities themselves. What is not readily available, and has led to the writing of this book, is an overview of the whole field of holistic health and healing. In this book I want to examine what the different modalities have in common, and also to return to basic first principles, and develop an understanding of what holistic health is and how it can be achieved. Finally to enable you, the reader, to gain an understanding of your own health needs, and the modalities best suited to fulfilling those needs.

There is one thing that all of the new healing methods have in common - they are holistic, that is they all view each person as a whole. Furthermore, they recognise that each of us is made up not of three levels, but of five - the physical body, the energy body, the emotions, mind and spirit. The energy body was largely unknown, and the emotions mostly overlooked, in our society till recently. Each of these healing modalities has, as a common aim, the harmonising and integration of these five levels of our being. Some focus more on one aspect than on another. For example, acupuncture works mostly on the energy level, massage and herbs work on the physical level, whilst Bach Flower Remedies work on the mental and emotional levels. Knowing what level your particular imbalance is on, is therefore the first step to choosing an appropriate modality suited to your needs.

---

Please send in your comments/questions and I will reply at earliest.

Reality vs. Perception

Is it real?

Lately I have been facing a lot of questions pertaining what is reality. Not that I am any expert on that subject but as I like to, I tried to put my mind to at least understand the question.

I have always said, before trying to find an answer, see if you understand the question in the first place.

So on reality, I was pondering for few days. Is it what we believe is reality or what we refuse to believe is reality? I cut my self while preparing some meal. It hurts. That is reality? Or because I believe, since I am cut, it hurts, that is reality?

No I don't mean to say that if I start believing it won't hurt even if I am cut, will become reality.

I realized that there is a very fine yet distinct line between what is reality and what is perception. this distinction is that unchangeable border that stops our progress and evolution.

Some examples to be considered.

There are people, and many of them, who lead a miserable life. If you enquire with them, they always someone or something else to blame their misery to. Seldom they take the responsibility of their own affairs. Their reality, is their perception that life is not going to improve for them. Loss of motivation, self esteem and self respect. There is no love for life or gratification of being alive and able. Constantly complaining and doing nothing about making change. Is it real?

There are some other people, very few, who irrespective of the circumstance, have a brilliant smile on their face. They may be suffering from deep pains, emotional or physical, but rarely let it spill out. They bring goodness around. They bring hope to living. Usually this people sooner then later, do succeed in their lives. Very few of them. Where is reality in their world? That pain or the that smile?

This led me to another aspect to think and ponder upon. The 'power of intent'.

One can make changes, cross that fine definitive line between perception and reality and lead a life which is more fulfilling. The power to change misery in to joy. Power to convert sorrow in to happiness. To convert tears in to laughter. Yet not forgetting the reality, that pain is inevitable. Just like death.

The important aspect here is that of self conciousness. Tricky word this conciousness is. Every time I used this word in my conversation or writing, people suddenly gave a unnecessary intellectual/philosophical 'high' importance to the event. Suddenly they start 'behaving' differently. Unfortunately so many spiritual teachers and gurus have used this terminology so loosely now that it has lost it's simple meaning.

The word conciousness once again takes you back to the fine definitive difference between reality and perception. So given the understanding of conciousness, in terms of understanding the reality versus perception, I find it is rather easier to work with ones own conciousness. For a moment, set aside the belief, the knowledge, the education, the opinion and the suggestions from outside, and you will see your own conciousness clearly. You will that distinctive fine line that separates your reality from your own perception.

Once you see this, you will also realise that your perception is also part of your reality. Mind boggling isn't it? Well I am still working on this concept and also on 'power of intent'. Someday soon I am sure I will have much clearer picture and much simpler words to express.

Weight

Weight

Excessive weight, we feel is, your bodies response to under nourishment.

Shocked!

That's the whole idea. Well not all of them would fall in that category but most would. For a moment, think on a different line.

Definition: Losing weight is not shaping up or slimming. Losing weight may reduce a size or two or more but to shape up, have flat belly and look trim and fit, exercise and work outs are the only solutions. Do not expect to look like ramp models by simply popping some pills or starving yourself for days.

Cause: body is unable to digest essential nutrients

Result: body thinks it is starving

Action: body goes into survival mode

Detail: Body starts retaining water and whatever else it can to protect and conserve the body mass. Over time, it would convert into solidified fats.

Result: weight gain

Make sense?

Well it does to me. My observation has been when I treated people with weight as a problem, I did succeed but the solution was temporary. Soon after, they gained that weight again.

The point here is, contrary to popular belief, there is little direct connection between quantity of food consumed and weight gained by individual. Blaming it on genes is an easier way out but does not answer the real question.

I find what you eat really doesn't matter, what matters is how you eat. More than that, is how do you feel after eating. Do you feel guilty, lethargic, bloated ? If yes, then think about it. The food you ate, rather the way you ate, there was something wrong.

There is also the aspect of certain under functioning or total collapse of digestive system. Not necessarily the entire system but even part of it can result in improper digestion and hence lack of nutrition, resulting in bodies response in retaining whatever it can.

One of the major culprits I found was the process of 'thermogenesis' controlled by your Thyroid glands. Simply speaking this process is either has stopped or is not enough to keep your weight down.

Basic essentials that help you lose weight:

Exercise

Metabolic Typing

Limiting or elimination of grains and sugars

Addressing underlying emotional issues

Getting enough high quality sleep

I suggest that you clean the digestive organs, so they start functioning efficiently. This increases the nutrition intake and body won't feel starve.

The bio-chemical balance to get thermogenesis process in order. It supports the metabolism and breakdown of fat by assisting the body to convert fat into energy.

My personal counseling/motivation along with EFT would have addressed the issue of emotional imbalance and you gain by taking control of your life.

Think over this new perspective of weight problem. Do write if you have questions.

Misconcepts about Colon Cleanse

Colonics, Colema, colonic irrigation, colon enema, call it with whatever name, its the same thing.

Think of it as forced flush of your bowels. It works, and works well. The results are very well experienced by our founding team. Having experienced the colonics for several times, I have realized, the necessity of colonic is extremely over hyped. In fact the entire process works 'too' well for our own good.

Shocked !

Ok. We I didn't mean to. Here is our take on the colonics.

If someone is suffering, we blame it to problems originating from, ultimately, the colon. Inefficiency of colon results into accumulation of toxins in our guts.

Accumulated toxins will always result into bad health and one goes through 'spiral death' syndrome. One leads to another and the problem keeps growing.

A colonic will offer a quick relief. Remove the top layer of toxins accumulated in guts but it will not resolve the issue at the core of the problem.

The issue at the core is, insufficient stock of essential elements required.

What are the essential elements we are talking about?

Essential Fatty acids, amino acids, enzymes, minerals, vitamins, trace minerals and most importantly 16 different types of friendly bacteria. There are many more things but things but this is just a brief.

If this is not supplied to the body, no amount of cleansing will ever suffice or result in good health or as we call it 'well being'.

Understanding the process of colonics, we realized that it actually makes your bowel muscles lapse a bit. That's the worst thing, we could do to our bowels.

We at Saananda, want to retrain your bowels, so that it can do the job naturally without any external assistance.

After all to be healthy and well, one does not need to depend on external physical assistance. A bit of balance in the chemical imbalance causing all the trouble can make all the difference. That's Saananda way.
